boomerang trip.

So..we came, we saw, we played, and then we needed to go back home.
While we were at Sea World Cody called us and let us know Craig's Dad, Perk had passed away. We were planning on driving back with Mon Bon in a week but it just felt like we needed to go. It was hard to leave.
Nan, Pops, Letti and Paisley (above) were leaving on Thursday so we caravaned with them. The kids were amazingly good. In fact they were exceptionally good the whole week. I think H.F. was helping so the adults could deal with some tender moments.
Cody had worked for Perk when he lived in TX a long time ago, and had only nice things to say about him. I had only eaten dinner with him a handful times, but Craig is one of the best guys I know so, Perk is special. We went to his memorial Service on Monday at The Cowboy Church. It was a nice memorial, of course we were all just hurting for the Carmack family. Thank goodness for the knowledge that we can be together again.

Sea World

Everyone went on the new SeaWorld ride while the littles and I enjoyed some Polar Bear action. There were 2 bears, and they actually played with the big red ball! Then were chasing each other and messing around we went underground right as they decided to dive underwater. It was pretty sweet. However their paws were kind of haunting after hearing about Grandpa's bear story

Not warm enough for the splash zone

We had a really nice trip. Thanks Mom and Dad and Grandpa and Grandma.
It was really nice to see you

back back to cali cali

So my Grandma and Grandpa wanted to escape Idaho winter and go down to Cali. I wanted to go hang out, show off my kids and show them around since my parents had to work. Then!!!... Cody's brother decided to buy a truck from his sister in Grant Terrace! So The kids and I flew out there planning to drive the truck back. The kids were so good on the flight, I couldn't even believe it. and Cody got a gate pass to help me back to the plane. It worked out sweet.
It was so nice to see them and its hard to get up to Idaho from here. They were really surprised when my Dad walked in the door with us on Friday night. Sunday My Grandpa gave a fireside to the ysa ward about his bear attacks. It so neat and horrible to hear at the same time. But Heavenly Father definitely had more work in store for him. Its just crazy my Mom was 7 when it happened and she could've been a totally different person. and My grandparents have been on hmm... 4 missions together that I can count. anyway we loved our time with them.

Sunday night we also got to see some of the Bowlers for a while, with plans to reunite at the end of the week.

Monday Rowdy went to Kindergarten at my Dad's elementary school in Desert Hot Springs and we met them out there later to go to the... Desert Hot Springs. My dad found a sweet old school resort/spa with pools for the natural hot water. He rented us a little room for the day and we hung out in the hot tubs. There was a kiddy one that was perfect for our little ones. It was like a foot deep, and Elliot dug cruising around on her own. It rained and it was so perfect and cozy warm in the water. We even got a rainbow.

Tuesday Rowdy went to pre-school with Yaya and the rest of us went to La Jolla...(we didn't have enough room in the car :) he loved it. It was the most beautiful day... of course I feel that 99% of the time I'm in San Diego. There where tons of animals in the cove! can you see the huge-o pelicans on the rocks?

We went down to the beach and had a picnic lunch. My grandpa loves birds. I remember in Idaho he used to have an aviary full of pigeons and we used to go in there and try and catch them to give them a kiss. So of course grandpa threw the gulls some bread. there were 4 different kids of gulls begging. My favorite part was Ezra yelling at them, "Don't poop on Mommy's shoes!" My sandals were not on my feet.
Kids as always had a blast in the sand
The sea Lions were out basking and barking
There was a cool tunnel with a few tide pools at its base and on top there were a ton of the ginormous pelicans they had the coolest red and yellow throats too.

Saw some dolphins on our trek around the cove.
and this is where my heart sunk because I was distracted by the dolphins and lost sight of Ezra and was sure he had fallen through the railing. Instead he had climbed up it. Whew
after that grandma kept him close :)
I liked this cool lifeguard mailbox

The pelicans all took off after we left the beach
Can you guess what Elliot is looking at?

On the other side of the cove there were Harbor Seals!

We had a good time and since this was an amazing animal filled day I should also mention La Jolla has fearless squirrels. One of which scampered right up to Elliot while she was in the stroller and stopped looked at her, and you know how Elliot gets when she sees animal she is all flailing and excited. The squirrel licks her shoe. Ezra is right by the stroller. The squirrel comes over and sniffs Elliot's hand and Ezra starts to reach out his hand to pet him and then he scampers off. I was paralyzed with amazement giggles and little fear. Do squirrels still have creepy diseases like I was told growing up? or am I just paranoid?
There's Grandpa coming back from the retaining wall to get a close up of the seals. It was so nice having Grandpa around to scratch my back.
Then we went to the Mormon Battalion Center in Old Town. Wow, they re-did that place and it was awesome. Although I do feel like there was a nice room to ponder in before. But it was really fun and well done.

Ezra even panned for real fool's gold. There was our sweet Sister missionary from Boston
Rowdy and my Mom came and met us later and we spent the night. It another amazing day. It was so amazing we even got close free parking and I didn't even have to parallel park Tad/ Dee's ginormous truck on a very busy day at the cove!
so.. more to come. but if you are a Californian reading this and are sad we haven't seen or called you, we are sorry. We needed to come home early. but we will be back this summer....Syd is getting married!

Better when..

 we're together.

Even though that is not always true of our family picture attempts. Thank goodness for Photoshop.
 Happy Martin Luther King Day.
Today felt like Saturday, and Saturday felt like a Saturday too so that was nice.
We went to a service project in Denton redoing some trails. The kids had fun playing in the dirt. Then we went to the latin grocery store for tacos with the Canciarmacks. We made quite the impression there. But hopefully they were flattered because their tacos are legit. mmmmm.
Then Rowdy got invited to a little Texan wrestling practice. He was the smallest litttle guy there & he was nervous but he was really excited before and after so? we need to talk. It was held at our local high school's indoor practice field! It was super nice. It seemed like we were at a college sports complex. Love those taxes.
Saturday we rode family bikes down to the new Taco Mayo.
It was yuummy.... and they sell Chaco-Tacos!!
and then we had a Nacho party with the Stamps...as in we ate nachos and watched Nacho Libre. Naaaachoooooo!
Whenever we are together it really is the best day ever

Food Truck Park

Yuum. This place was fun. Its back in the alley of this industrial area and all these gourmet food trucks strut their stuff. The crowd was pretty artsy and fun. We tried 4 out of the 5 trucks and loved everything.

It was a pretty cold day so I got some chili from The "Good Karma Kitchen" truck parked right across from the "Bacon Wagon" where Cody got his chili from :) both really good. My mom got some crazy good tacos and the boys had a yum-ola pizza. Ezra's face is because he wants more, I am sure.
Definitely visiting again. I wonder what trucks will be there next time?

Elliot's ham & lemon

Here she comes again

Nevermind Rowdy's side comment

Here she comes

Elliot in the past 2 days has gone from us majorly prodding her to walk to: standing up and cruising around. falling down getting back up turning corners changing directions. Bending over to pick things up then standing back up & walking. I guess she just decided it was time.

Week with my Mom

I feel so lucky we got to have an extra new years week w Yaya.
She finally won Ezra over :)
She helped us sew a bunch of stuff including roughly 100 blackout curtains
(j/k in just seemed like 100) & reflective-ness on Cody's crazy orange Michelin man jacket.
We took the kids to the Bob the Builder exhibit at the Dallas Kids museum. They looved this water pump machine. I like all the blue. Elliot was on the other side grabbing the balls out of the spout.

Elliot got so used to Yaya taking pictures, she started doing her best cheese anytime she would see a camera. (awesome video clip to come) You can see her single bottom tooth so good in this picture too :) She now has 4 on top and just that little one on the bottom. Its so funny/cute
We showed her the water gardens in Fort Worth.
It was all fun and games until Cody let Ezra fall into the freezing cold reflective pool. haha just kidding. He did it on his own accord

I think we sent poor Rowdy to pre-school this day. It helped us all fit in the car ;)
Also got some jump house action in there.
Yep that face is one for the memory books. I think I am having way more fun than my kids...I was just trying to help Elliot have a good time.

Yaya also let Cody and I go on a few dates. We got a new computer desk so she showed the kids how to do a puppet show for Elliot

Post-Movie night!
Rowdy must not be used to staying up that late :)
Anyway we had a really nice week. Thanks for visiting Yaya it was hard to say goodbye. Rowdy got all teared up at the airport. and Elliot and Ezra could have too if they weren't sound asleep. Hope to see you again soon
